Stripped - Depeche Mode and Analogue Solutions Oberkorn step sequencer
I was reading Stripped in bed and nearly spilled hot Ovaltine all over myself when I read this "Further indication of Depeche Mode’s impact on popular music was indirectly shown when Analogue Solutions UK Ltd, a British manufacturer of new-generation analogue synthesisers and music accessories, named their Oberkorn analogue sequencer after the B-side, ‘Oberkorn (It’s A Small Town)’ (the quirky instrumental flip to ‘The Meaning Of Love’). Its operating manual even opens with the words “Oberkorn (It’s Not A Small Sequencer)!”
According to Analogue Solutions’ manager, Tom Carpenter, “The Oberkorn is my ideal analogue sequencer. I wanted it to have a weird name. I thought it would be interesting to see how many people connected its name to Depeche Mode. They have had a huge influence on my musical tastes and career. Amongst a few other electronic bands, they are what started my interest in music and electronic instruments. ‘What a fitting tribute,’ I thought, ‘to name one of my creations after my all-time favourite musicians!’”
